The First 2025 Event

The first event on the Monoposto schedule for 2025 is next weekend at Road Atlanta. For many years The Mitty has been a feature of the Monoposto schedule but given the entry list count for this year it is clearly not as popular with Monoposto members as it has been in prior years. As I’m writing this there are only 3 open wheel entries and, while it’s not clear why, this does mean that the open wheel group is being combined for the weekend with two other race groups that also have low entry counts.
Road Atlanta has been a fitting track to begin testing our driving skills each year. It is a wonderful circuit with significant elevation changes and several flowing turn sequences, including notably the esses. The back straight presents wonderful drafting possibilities and the section that begins in turn 10 and ends with turn 3 is really fast and goes sharply downhill and then sharply uphill. Because of the high level of simultaneous lateral and vertical G loads I suspect that many drivers take that track section while holding their breath.
One point to note is that the low entry count means that competition for Monoposto points is reduced and, if you have been hesitating to enter, this may influence your entry decision. Even at this date it is not too late for you to enter and take advantage of the low entry count.
The weather for the weekend looks great with only a slight chance of rain and temperatures ranging from the 50s to the high 60s each day. 2024 Monoposto Championship trophies have been delivered but unfortunately, I won’t be at the Mitty this year so they will be distributed beginning at the next event at Road America in May.
